The new workforce development and training programme for 2008/09 will be available here shortly, containing information on courses available to all East Midlands museum and heritage staff from voluntary-run museums to larger organisations.

Free MODES regional day on 10 September 2008 from 10.15am - 4pm at Lincolnshire Archives, St Rumbold Street, Lincoln, LN2 5AB. This will be an opportunity to ask questions, meet other users, compare notes and exchange ideas. You are welcome to make a presentation about working with MODES in your museum, please contact support@modes.org.uk if you would like to do so.

MLA East Midlands is running two Inspiring Learning for All (ILFA) training courses on 27 November at Newark Town Hall and 15 December at New Walk Museum, Leicester. Both courses are open to all, including those who want a refresher and those new to ILFA.
The first day (27 November) will focus on simple ways to find out and demonstrate the impact that your museum or archive has on learners using the Generic Learning Outcomes.
The second day (15 December) will be a chance to explore ILFA as a planning tool, including an introduction to the four Ps, the use of ILFA for advocacy and a chance to think about applications within your organisation.
Both courses are free, run from 10am - 4pm and provide lunch.
MODES for Windows for beginners - two two-day courses on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 September or Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December, 10am - 4.15pm at The VoiceBox, Kensington Mews, Foreman Street, Derby, DE1 1JQ. The course will teach participants how to record museum objects using MODES for Windows. The cost is £140 per delegate but funded places are available via Renaissance East Midlands. Dealing with Disaster - Monday 15 September, 10am - 4pm, Ayscoughfee Hall, Churchgate, Spalding, PE11 2RA. Get practical training in dealing with small or medium scale disasters, activating an emergency plan and effective recovery. To book contact EmmS on 0115 848 3562 or email EmmS.
Developing Heritage Sites for Tourism - Thursday 18 - Friday 19 September, George Eliot Building, Centre for Museum and Heritage Management, Nottingham Trent University, MG11 8NS. This is an opportunity to critically evaluate strategies for developing, managing and redesigning heritage sites for tourism. It costs £100 including lunch and refreshments on both days. Working with adults with a learning disability - Monday 22 September, Newark Town Hall, Market Place, Newark, NG24 1DU. This will help all staff and volunteers develop their skills and understanding of working with adults with a learning disability. To book use the form above.
PRINCE2 Overview - Monday 29 September, 9.30am - 4.30pm, Grantham Museum, St Peters Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PY. This will provide an introduction to the PRINCE 2 project management approach. To book use the form above.
CLORE Leadership short courses
Renaissance East Midlands is offering two free places on the forthcoming CLORE Leadership Short courses:
8 - 20 March 2009 at Ashridge Business School, Hertfordshire
14 - 26 June 2009 at the National College for School Leadership, Nottingham
The intensive two-week residential courses are produced in association with leading universities and business schools and are designed for people with five years' experience in the middle ranks of larger cultural organisations or those near the top of smaller ones.
The courses provide both practical and academic teaching and they aim to provide intensive personal development, an examination of the nature of good leadership and an introduction to the areas of expert knowledge essential to effective cultural leadership.
Topics covered include financial management and modelling, managing capital projects, people management and human resources, strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, governance and charity law.
