Plans and work programme

The success of the previous work programme, a model for other regions and other organisations, will be continued to develop the successful NVQ programme and provide the support, guidance and training to invest in staff, potential staff and volunteers at museums across the East Midlands.

Three quarters of respondents to the 2007 museums survey had benefited from Renaissance East Midlands training and 94 per cent wanted training to continue.

The 2008 - 2009 programme will include:

  • The development of two vocational pilot schemes at schools in deprived areas of the region, with a target of eight young people obtaining NVQ 2/3 and three teachers trained as assessors.
  • A targeted training scheme, including extending the disaster preparedness training, to reach out to three more small museums.
  • A region wide training programme responding to training needs analyses conducted by partner services, county museum forums and other key stakeholder groups.
  • The development of the NVQ centre of excellence to meet the high and growing demand.
  • Three new Positive Action Trainees and two Cultural Apprenticeship placements.
