museumaker retail report

The museumaker programme included a retail element whereby a retail consultant worked with the participating museums to assess their retail potential and provide advice on possible improvements to generate increased income.

The aim was to encourage museums to think about collaborations with designer makers on articles to sell in museum shops and online as well as collaborations on contemporary installations, the main focus of the programme.

The results of the consultation are now available, please see the report below:

In addition two museums, Derby Museum and Art Gallery and 78 Derngate, have taken part in a pilot project to work with local artists to produce items for sale in their site shops.

The fruits of this pilot have now successfully launched. Designer-makers Helen Massey & Barbara Rogers, inspired by Derby Museums' collection of Derby porcelain, have produced limited edition range of buttons and jewellery pins.
