What are the Renaissance Heritage Awards?
The Renaissance Heritage Awards are a series of awards for all museums, including independent and local authority museums, heritage societies and linked local groups.
The awards run separately in each East Midlands county and celebrate excellence in museums and heritage. Categories include best event; best exhibition; inspiration award for best special project; and museum of the year.
All the awards are judged by key county representatives who visit the short-listed museums, and are then presented at a county awards ceremony at a heritage venue. The winners receive a plaque and cash prize, as well as significant promotion regionally and nationally through Renaissance East Midlands and local media.

Is your museum worthy of an award?
Following the success of last year's Heritage Awards, you are warmly invited to enter this year's awards. Over the last two years, winners have ranged from small voluntary run museums to large local authority sites and have included local history societies and historic houses.
All entrants will be invited to an evening awards ceremony, in the summer of 2009.
How will they be judged?
Judging will be undertaken by a panel of judges during June and early July. Judging will be done on the basis of your application, supporting material and site visits, where appropriate. The best event category will be short-listed and judged upon the information and material that museums send as their entry to the award.
What are the entry criteria?
Entry to the awards is open to all members of the County Museums Forums, irrespective of size or how the organisation is funded. As with last year, the judges will be looking for how well projects have been run using the resources available, so smaller organisations have just as much chance of success as larger museums.
