Plans and work programme

The museum development officers have been a great success in their respective counties. The support provided by Mark Laurie, Hannah Gould, Anita Hollinshead, Jane Seddon and continued by Leicestershire and Rutland’s community museums officer, Robin Clarke, will continue to help museums to be the best they can be.

They will continue to support all areas of the Renaissance East Midlands programme and will ensure smaller museums are working effectively and, where appropriate, in partnership with Renaissance East Midlands partner services. The team will continue to build partnerships and advocate to others on behalf of East Midlands museums, incuding ensuring museums have a voice in local authority Local Area Agreements and with local tourism agencies.

The museum development officers will also deliver:

  • Twenty five more museums achieving Accreditation, 30 per cent of eligible museums.
  • Twenty five museums awarded grants from the Regional Grant Fund.
  • A five per cent increase in the number of museums producing volunteer policies.
  • A total of 70 per cent of regional museums to have forward plans, an increase of 10 per cent.
  • Ten new museums taking part in training run by county museum forums.
  • Participation in county museum forums to 85 per cent of all regional museums involved.
  • A two per cent increase in museums receiving more than 5,000 visitors a year to reach 88 of smaller regional museums.
  • A five per cent increase in volunteer participation in museums to reach 3,150 volunteers.
  • The Renaissance Heritage Awards developed in each county to include more applications and increasing opportunities to publicise and promote the work of museums through the awards.
