Museums development

Renaissance East Midlands aim is to help build a museums community that meets and exceeds the expectations of 21st century audiences.

Renaissance has invested in the region’s museum structure through the appointment of four museum development officers (MDOs) who have joined the Leicestershire County Council funded community museums officer, and together will support the work of museums on the ground and connect museums with funding, training and support.

Renaissance, through the MDOs, supports the development of the region’s museums using standards such as accreditation, Inspiring Learning for All and Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service (VAQAS).

The Museums Development specialist panel, led by Leicestershire Heritage Service, meets regularly to drive forward museum development activity across the East Midlands.  It brings together the expertise and insight of Renaissance staff, key stakeholders, representatives from the wider museums community and specialists from outside the sector.
