Audience development

The potential audiences for the region’s museums are vast and many are untapped. Renaissance East Midlands is working with museums to connect more and more people from the region’s diverse communities with local museums and collections.

Renaissance East Midlands is coordinating groups of museums and other arts and community organisations to use existing and new research to map current and potential audiences and to use this information to develop plans to attract more and more diverse people. It is helping local museums develop programmes for and with local communities including funding new community learning and outreach workers and working with museums to prepare audience development plans to use collections to celebrate local and regional diversity, culture and identity.

The Audience Development Specialist Panel, led by Nottingham City Museums and Galleries, meets regularly to drive forward audience development activity across the East Midlands.  It brings together the expertise and insight of Renaissance staff, key stakeholders, representatives from the wider museums community and specialists from outside the sector.
