Culture 24 website - Culture24 is the UK’s national virtual museum. It is updated daily with at least two new stories including arts and museum news as well as exhibition notices, reviews, features and trails.
The site promotes publicly-funded UK museums, galleries, archives and heritage attractions and seeks to get the message about Britain's great culture to a broad online audience nationally and worldwide.
Accreditation - MLA's Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums. To qualify, museums must meet clear basic requirements on how they care for and document their collections, how they are governed and managed, and on the information and services they offer to their users.
DCMS – the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the government department that includes the museum, library and archive sector.
DfES – the Department for Education and Skills. MLA and Renaissance work with DfES on projects and initiatives regarding work with schools, lifelong learning and workforce development.
Hub – For many of the Renaissance regional partnerships, the hub is the five core partner museums or museums services. In the case of the East Midlands, this is not called a hub; along with MLA East Midlands, the Renaissance Partner Museums are Derby Museums and Art Gallery, Leicester City Museums, Leicestershire Heritage Services, Lincolnshire Heritage Services, Nottingham City Museums and Galleries. This group coordinates the work of Renaissance in the East Midlands.
MLA – The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) is the lead strategic agency for museums, libraries and archives. It is part of the wider MLA Partnership.
MLA was launched in April 2000 as the strategic body working with and for museums, archives and libraries, tapping into the potential for collaboration between them.
MLA Partnership – the partnership of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council working at a national level and with the nine regional MLAs. The organisations work together to improve people’s lives by building knowledge, supporting learning, inspiring creativity and celebrating identity. The Partnership acts collectively for the benefit of the sector and the public, leading the transformation of museums, libraries and archives for the future.
MLA East Midlands - MLA East Midlands aims to work in partnership with museums, libraries and archives to ensure that they play a full role in the social, educational, cultural and economic life of the East Midlands. MLA East Midlands is one of the core partners in Renaissance East Midlands.
museumaker – a £310,000 partnership programme to develop new relationships, new work and new audiences for contemporary craft and museum collections. The programme involves the creation of temporary and permanent commissions at nine museums, professional development for museum staff for 20 museums and retail consultancy to make more of their shops. The programme is coordinated by MLA East Midlands, Renaissance East Midlands and the Arts Council East Midlands with additional funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
Museums and Galleries Month - Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) is organised by The Campaign for Museums, a registered charity, with support from Museums Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) through the Renaissance in the Regions and Arts Council England. MGM is supported by museums, galleries and arts organisations throughout the UK who organise events, activities and special promotions, reflecting the annual theme, during May to attract new and returning visitors. There is no entry fee or charge. For more information visit the MGM website.
